Daltons Plantation, Matamata by Xanthe White

Judith Dalton and Xanthe White have grown a creative concept into what has become one of New Zealand's most unique event venues. Daltons Plantation showcases new plants, products and different garden styles to the gardening public in a 10 acre development adjacent to Daltons operating site in Matamata. Utilising the design skills of one of New Zealands leading garden designers, Xanthe White, Daltons plantation showcases up to twenty garden rooms; highlighting different garden styles in a constantly changing and diverse mix of plants and landscaping themes.

Incorporating gardens and a cafe/function centre, Daltons Plantation is a living, evolving representation of all the very best the gardening industry has to offer. Designed to wow and inspire, Daltons Plantation is yet another example of Daltons actively supporting the gardening industry in New Zealand.

The courtyard featuring Peter Fell colour was the first of the gardens developed for the plantation and has both a classical flavour as well as being a piece of art in itself. The large concrete court is ornately broken with curling details planted with Leptinella. The water feature is a cooling centerpiece with tile details and sits in front of the entrance gates. The detailing on these is a good example of what the Plantation is all about. From an ornate idea the detail is formed simply with particle board attached to the main structure. This motif which repeats throughout the gardens provides a custom detail which is artful design not grandiose. The plantings of citrus, roses, gardenia and daphnes as well as the drifting borders of thyme provide a fragrant and sensual surround to this Spanish court.
